A licensed California architect, I specialize in residential design throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
As a full-service architecture studio, I will work closely with you end-to-end, from your initial project wishlist until you move into your new space. I have a proven track record of personalized service to my clients from our collaborative design process, through city approvals and permitting, to bidding and construction.
The majority of my current design work is in residential remodels and home additions, and I enjoy working on small-but-mighty design projects and surgical design solutions. My goal is to work with you to maximize the aesthetic and functional potential of your existing home’s architecture and facilitate an enjoyable design and construction process.
Residential additions and remodel projects
After our initial meetings, information-gathering, and brainstorming your project goals, I will develop a number of design schemes, showing you different options of how we can achieve your programmatic and aesthetic needs. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of each scheme objectively, and decide together on the most impactful and cost-effective design direction going forward.
New construction and custom home design
In addition to residential additions and remodels, I excel at new construction and custom home design. I am experienced in custom home design in the Bay Area and throughout northern California, often working with out-of-town contractors, consultants, and jurisdictions - sometimes a challenging process. The process of designing a custom home is exciting and a labor of love; we will work together closely throughout the process, to consider all possibilities and ultimately achieve the most beautiful and functional custom home design for you.
Architectural schematic design
I will undertake a thorough code review at the beginning of (and continuing throughout) the design process, working with the jurisdictions involved, to help you understand the Planning and Building Code regulations and limitations. I will help navigate your project through the often-confusing approvals and permitting processes.
Planning and building code review and analysis
Early on in the design process, we’ll develop a preliminary estimate of the overall cost of your project, including construction costs and soft costs such as professional fees, permits, agency fees, etc. As we progress with the design and develop construction drawings and details, I will help you engage a contractor to update and refine the estimate. Whether we solicit selected contractors to competitively bid on your project, or work with one contractor through pre-construction, my goal is to help you obtain the most accurate price, and minimize change orders during construction.
Preliminary cost estimating
I will create thorough and detailed construction drawings and specifications, to ensure contractor expectations and requirements for bidding and construction are clear. Accurate drawings and documents help the construction process go smoothly and with fewer surprises - saving you time and money.
Construction documents
Residential construction for a home addition or remodel in the Bay Area can be stressful and expensive. I will be your representative and advocate through the construction process and will visit the construction site frequently to ensure that your needs are being met as expected. I will work for you to help minimize delays or cost overruns.
Construction administration
My architectural design work doesn’t end with building the walls, windows, and roof. I will work with you to select interior finishes, fixtures and hardware, textures and colors. Your residential architecture and interior design should co-exist harmoniously, as a seamless and timeless composition, expressive of your lifestyle and values.
Interior design
I will help you design your hardscape, gardens, and exterior furnishings to complement your finished home and maximize the quality of your exterior space and indoor/outdoor lifestyle. If desired, I will work with you and a consulting landscape architect for more specialized planting selections or garden design.
